Default Construction since pre-searing

I was wandering around regent valley, trying to work out if any of the pre-searing cave ruins could be seen post-searing, and I found some amusing bridges...

This is the only pre-searing bridge near the aqueduct. Okay, fine.

Here's the same bridge, same location (see minimap)... but, uh...

That's not quite the same bridge...

But wait, there's more!

Here's a post-searing bridge, this time north-east of the aqueduct.

Now here's the same bridge, pre-searing.

Wait, that's no bridge...

So, not only have they built a bridge since the searing, but it has somehow been damaged, despite not being hit by the searing!

Now, admittedly, Regent Valley has been severely bashed by the searing, with the terrain far more deformed than, say, Ashford or Ascalon City. Even so, I have never seen giant flaming crystals form a bridge across a river...

lol, good one.

its an interesting fact that youve found, and also, i dont know if you noticed, but the first presear bridge has a "clean" surface, where the postsear bridges seem to have an "anguish face" (or demon face) at the side (at least the side your pictures show).

My theory is that the devs just weren't paying that close attention and so there were things that don't match properly.

Well, the geography should be the same except where the devs/designers purposely changed it. So, this must be intentional. It is weird that the post-searing bridges look much older than that one pre-searing bridge. It has similar architecture to other ruins near Ascalon, Surmia, the Courthouse, Dragon's Gullet, etc.

No, but all of Ascalon's rivers turned to tar when the Searing occured. So the tar just doesn't raise as high as water so you see more of the hills.

Also, my theory is that the Pre Searing bridges got destroyed in the searing. Ascalonians had to build new bridges to get across canyons like that especially because their rivers turned to tar. Since the Charr still do frequent raids it's possible that the bridges have been damaged in these skirmishes.

Overthinking it? Maybe, but that's my $0.02

Very interesting observation there. I think RPGmaniac is probably right, the searing did happen two years (technically about 9 years but.. uh...) before when you were out there wandering around, so it's possibe all sorts of things might have happened that made them want to build and rebuild bridges.

One thing that you have to consider is that the Charr were invading Ascalon, so there's a good chance that the Ascalonians themselves might have destroyed the bridge, and later rebuilt it, so they could starve the Charr of supplies in the desolate Ascalon area.

Further evidence that they were destroyed and rebuilt might be seen by their construction; the new bridge is smaller and easier to have built then the old bridge with it's superfluous cast iron ornaments and added stonework on the sides.

Of course, what might be more fitting is that the developers decided to make Ascalon with a more gothic look in Post-sear than in Pre-sear, and they were hoping no one would notice the change. And that worked for, what, over 3 years?

That's impossible! There are Moa birds everywhere!

But yeah, I agree with RPGmaniac's assessment. The face on the bridges may actually be that of Adelbern, too. Kinda looks like him. :P

Not surprised. you were in the academy all that time.

The more grotesque architecture could reflect the general mood of the Ascalonians during those war years.

Bridges, in particular, are quite likely to be built during war times to facilitate troop movements.

Well, the Charr are still there, so how successful do you think that action was?

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is a very easy explaination.

During the Searing, a bridge from some other area in Ascalon was hit by an explosion that launched the bridge into the air where it landed at that particular stream, intact.

Seems pretty obvious that Charrs did put some "change-bridge-design-magic" into all that mess xD
